Council Member Jeff AllenCouncil Member Jeff Allen attended the Upper Santa Ana River Division I Water Forum and discussed the following: • The emerging role of wastewater surveillance and what collecting samples from sewer sheds and treatment plants means for the future. • Providing a Drought-Proof Water Supply to People and Fish Along the Santa Ana River • Tracking Wastewater Locally: Virus Detection in Wastewater • Replenish Big Bear: The Economic and Community Benefits of Wastewater On January 23, 2023, Council Member Allen attended the San Bernardino County Veterans Advisory Committee and discussed the following: • The PACT Act is a new law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. • The PACT Act adds to the list of health conditions that assume (or “presume”) are caused by exposure to these substances. This law helps us provide generations of Veterans—and their survivors—with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve. Lastly, Council Member Allen commented on all of the mass shootings nationally and stated now is the time that the City prepares and trains the community in the Stop the Bleed program. The program provides trauma kits to be placed around public buildings out in the open for accessibility. Governor Newsom signed into law Assembly Bill 2260 which would require the person or entity responsible for managing a building, facility, and tenants of the above-referenced occupied structures, including those that are owned or operated by a local government entity, and that is constructed on or after January 1, 2023, to comply with certain requirements, including acquiring and placing at least 6 trauma kits on the premises, as specified, periodically inspecting and replacing the contents of a trauma kit, restocking the trauma kit after each use if the property managing entity or person is aware, or reasonably should be aware, that a trauma kit has been used, and notifying tenants of the building or structure of the location of the trauma kits, as specified.
