A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAND TERRACE, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THAT THE
COLTON UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD GIVE CAREFUL CON-
SIDERATION 'TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF YEAR-ROUND
SCHOOLS.
WHEREAS, the City of Grand Terrace fully understands
that the responsibility for education of our children falls
within the jurisdiction of the Colton Joint Unified School Dis-
trict ; and
WHEREAS , the City Council has received input from Grand
Terrace citizens during a Public Forum conducted on November 30 ,
1989 ; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that the Board of
Education is under mandate by State Assembly Bill AB1650 to begin
a gradual phase-in of year-round schooling; and
WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Grand Terrace
hereby requests that the Colton Joint Unified School Board give
careful consideration to the implementation of year-round schools
and to implement the Year-round School Program as acted upon at
the October 5 , 1989 , meeting and approved by the California State
' Department of Education to place two K through 6 schools (Reche
Canyon and :J:urup,a Vista Schools) for the 1990-91 school year; and
NOW,. THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Grand
Terrace , representing the parents of our school children, DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE that prior to implementation of a more extensive
year-round program to conduct the feasibility study pursuant to
State Assemble Bill AB1650 and as outlined in the Education Code
Section 17717 . 5(e) and make the data gathered in the study avail-
able to all interested parties prior to expansion of the current-
ly approved Year-round Program.
