1979-24 RESOLUTION NO. 79-24
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAND TERRACE, CALIFORNIA, REGARDING SENATE BILL
858, A COMPREHENSIVE LOCAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYER/
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS LAW
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 858 has been introduced by Senator Jerry Smith
and is currently before the California Legislature; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 858 is a comprehensive local government employer/
employee relations law and is intended to replace the Meyer Milias Brown
Act; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grand Terrace appreciates the need for revising the
existing Employer/Employee Relations Law; and
WHEREAS, the provisions of Senate Bill 858 would permit the creation of
the situation and membership in a labor union would become a condition of
employment with the City; and
WHEREAS, this feature is an optional provision, but it is true that in
the course of events that which is a permission often becomes a condition; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City Council of the City of Grand Terrace
firmly believe that no citizen should be required to belong to an organization
to be a candidate for employment with their government.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Grand
Terrace expresses its opposition to Senate Bill 858.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the City be directed to send
copies of this Resolution to members of the Assembly Public Employees Retirement
Committee, the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, Senator Ruben Ayala and
Assemblyman Terry Goggln.
