1981-64 RESOLUTION NO. 81-64
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAND TERRACE, CALIFORNIA, OPPOSING THE LOCATION
OF A PRE-RELEASE FACILITY FOR INMATES OF THE CALI-
FORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS IN HIGHGROVE,
CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, the California Department of Corrections considers
pre-release facilities for inmates to be a method for rehabilitating inmates
of the California Penal System; and
WHEREAS, the California Department of Correction may contract with the
Volunteers of America for a pre-release facility at Villa and Glenn Streets,
Highgrove, California, to be operated by the Volunteers of America; and
WHEREAS, a pre-release facility for State Prison inmates in said
location would place that facility in close proximity to the City of Grand
Terrace; and
WHEREAS, many residents of Highgrove and the City of Grand Terrace -
have indicated their objections to a pre-release facility for inmates being
located within their community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Grand Terrace has determined
that opposition to the proposed location of this facility is in the best
interest of its citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Grand Terrace DOES
HEREBY RESOLVES its OPPOSITION to the California Department of Corrections'
consideration of Highgrove, California, as the location for a pre-release
facility for State Prison inmates and, further, requests the Riverside County
Planning Commission and the Riverside County Board of Supervisors NOT to
authorize the location of such a pre-release facility in the vicinity of
Highgrove, California
ADOPTED this 19th day of November, 1981.
