1982-50 RESOLUTION NO. 82- 50
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAND TERRACE, CALIFORNIA, ADVISING STATE LEGIS-
LATORS OF CONCERNS REGARDING REAPPORTIONMENT OF
LEGISLATIVE DISTRICTS.
WHEREAS, the City of Grand Terrace is a local government responsible
for sound administrative practices as well as leadership on issues of public
concern; and
WHEREAS, our representation in the State Legislature is an important
aspect of public policy administration affecting city revneues and
responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature is charged with the legal
responsibility for drawing of Legislative District boundaries which provide
for nearly equal populations within each Assembly and State Senate District,
respectively; and
WHEREAS, the Laws of the State of California also provide that local
political divisions and community interests shall be served in the Legislative
redistricting process; and
WHEREAS, the people of California voted overwhelmingly, as did the
electors of the City of Grand Terrace in June, 1982, to overturn and nullify
the redistricting plan previously passed by the Legislature and signed into
law by the Governor; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature is now again charged with redrawing
Legislative District boundaries which are fair and equitable and serve local
community interests -- and in view of the fact that the last redistricting law
divided our City and School District and neighboring cities and communities
unnecessarily between two Assembly Districts;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND TERRACE DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE to advise State Senator Ruben S. Ayala, State Assemblymen Terry
Goggin and Bill Leonard, Jr. , Lt. Governor Leo McCarthy, and Speaker of the
Assembly Willie Brown of our concern that State Legislative Districts be
redrawn to once again include all of our City and School District within a
single State Senate District and a single State Assembly District.
