97 ORDINANCE NO. 97
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GRAND TERRACE, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING
THE CITY OF GRAND TERRACE'S MUNICIPAL CODE,
CHAPTER 18.72, DEALING WITH SIGNS.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND TERRACE
DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 13.72.120(K) of the Grand Terrace
(Municipal Cede is hereby amended to read as follows:
"K. Banners, flags, pennants and balloons (except as provided
for in this chapter);"
SECTION 2. Section 18. 72.200 is hereby amended to read
as follows:
"8.72.200 Special event signs. Special Event signs may be approved
for a limited period of time, in any district as a means of publicizing
Special events such as a grand opening, new management, inventory sale,
for public or charitable events and Christmas tree lots. To apply for
approval of special event signs, the applicant shall submit a letter
to the planning director which describes the proposed sign by means of
a sketch and the display dates. The planning director shall review
the request within ten working days after receipt and shall make a
determination to approve, approve with modification or deny the
request. Such special event signs shall be limited by the following
provisions.
A. No more than one special event sign shall be
permitted per activity and shall be either a wall , window or ground
sign with the use of flags, banners and pennants.
B. All special events shall be a maximum of thirty-two square
feet and shall be posted below the roof or shall be no higher than
eight feet in the case of a ground sign.
C. Special event signs shall be limited to thirty days, twice
per calendar year.
0. Special event signs as provided for herein, may not be
displayed, erected, hung, attached or affixed to any pole, staff,
structure, or other appurtenance without the prior approval of the
City Planning Director.
1. Special event signs shall be maintained in good repair
at all times.
2. A cash deposit in the amount of fifty ($50) dollars or in
such amount as is hereafter designated by the City Council , shall be
deposited with the sign application to ensure compliance with this
chapter and removal of such sign. The deposit shall be refunded to
the applicant upon removal of the sign by the applicant. If the City
is forced to either remove the sion or to bring abatement action, the
City's costs of such action shall be deducted from the deposit.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall be in full
force and effect ate a.m. on the 31st day after its adoption.
Section 4. Posting. The City Clerk shall cause this
Ordinance to be posteTi tthree (3) public places designated for such
purpose by the City Council.
Section 5. First read at the regular meeting of the City Council
of said City held on the 26th day of September, 1985, and finally adopted
and ordered po.sted at a regular meeting of said City Council on the 17th
day of October, 1985.
