MINUTES
CALL MEETING TO ORDER:
Brian Phelps, Chairman called the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee Regular Meeting to
order at 4:21 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairman, Brian Phelps.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Committee Members Freund,Rivera; Chairman Phelps
Absent: Committee Member Firnkoess; Vice-Chair Suarez
1. Approve March 14, 2019 Minutes
Committee Member Rivera moved, and Committee Member Freund seconded to approve
the March 14, 2019 Minutes

Absent: Committee Member Firnkoess; Vice-Chair Suarez
2. Public Comments
None.
3. Staff Presentation
a. Update-March 1, 2019 Parks &Recreation Committee Workshop
G. Harold Duffey, City Manager informed the Committee that the update on the
March 1, 2019 Committee workshop will be conducted at the next meeting scheduled
May 9, 2019.

4. 2019 Activity Guide
City Manager Duffey explained that the 2019 Activity Guide was brought in-house for
preparation but will be sent out for printing. The goal is to have the Activity Guide in,
every household, which will serve as a directory.
5. Recreation and Special Event Activities
a. Special Event Activities:
i. Pickup, Plant&Paint Community Cleanup Day- 04/13/2019
City Manager Duffey shared with the Committee that the event will consists of
painting retaining walls in the City, re-planting on Mt. Vernon and Main Street,
re-planting at the City's Fitness Park, trash pickup, fruit picking, lunch to be
served at the Fitness Park beginning at 10:30 a.m. with 36,000 ladybugs being
released into the park at noon. There will also be a gardening class conducted at
the park. The City's bus will be available to transport volunteers.
ii. Community Day—June 2019
Community Day will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Due to the dwindling
numbers in attendance due to the heat, discussion is being held regarding moving
the start time to either 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. with an end time of 9:00 p.m.
Items being considered for the day are a car show, performance by Grand Terrace
High School, a live band, talent demonstrations, activities for fun, food, and
raffles. `
The City and Committee are pushing to promote the event in early May 2019.
6. Committee Member Comments
Committee Member Rivera suggested holding a dog fair and requested information on
the Blue Mountain Trailhead and build out date.
7. Staff Comments
City Manager Duffey shared with the Committee that the Boys & Girls Club will be
sponsoring senior and adult swim, youth swim lessons and open swim during the summer
of 2019 at Grand Terrace High School.
