1998-27 RESOLUTION NO. 98-27
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAND TERRACE, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING
PROPOSITION 1A
WHEREAS, Education used to be California's number one priority contributing
to California's economic prominence nationally and internationally; and
WHEREAS, California schools are among the most overcrowded in the nation
with class sizes nearly one-third larger than the national average;and
WHEREAS, California schools are aging--more than 60% are 30 years old or
older--and suffer from years of chronic underfunding for repairs and new construction;
and
WHEREAS,Many California school students are faced with attending schools
that suffer from leaking roofs, inadequate wiring and plumbing; and
WHEREAS, California schools require new construction to accommodate growth
in student enrollment; and
WHEREAS,California schools require seismic repair and retrofitting to provide
safe classrooms for learning; and
WHEREAS, California now ranks 50th out of 50 states in computers per
students at the K-12 level; and
WHEREAS,California schools require computer-friendly classrooms to prepare
today's students for the workplace of the 21 st Century and high-skilled, high-wage
jobs; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 1 A will provide desperately needed funding to build new
classrooms to accomodate the class-size reduction program; and
WHEREAS,Proposition 1 A will provide desperately needed funding for repairs
that will provide California students with safe and up-to-date classrooms; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 1 A will require NO NEW TAXES; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 1 A will establish accountability - funds must be used
to build new schools, reduce classroom overcrowding, repair older classrooms,
construct laboratories and other facilities, wire for technology and help make our
schools safe; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 1 A is an investment in our future that joins state and
local resources to secure the necessary funding over four years for needed classrooms
and educational facilities for California's K-12, College and University students;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Grand
Terrace does hereby support the passage of Proposition 1 A on November 3, 1998.
