HomeMy WebLinkAboutC.1 Proposed Partnership With GRID Alternatives PresentationProposed Partnership With GRID Alternatives Background & 2030 Vision Statement •GRID Alternatives is a non-profit solar company that installs solar systems on qualifying homes •Prepares workers for jobs in the fast-growing solar industry. •GRID Alternatives is a statewide program administrator for the California Utility Commission’s Single-Family Affordable Solar Homes (SASH) Program and was recently awarded funds from the California’s Cap and Trade Program This item supports Goal #4 to Develop and Implementing a successful partnership with GRID Alternatives, preparing for growth by supporting the City’s development of Solar Energy for low -income residents. Discussion The organization currently collaborates with several local cities, including City of Colton, Rancho Cucamonga, Rialto, Upland, Redlands and Riverside. Requested is the City of Grand Terrace’s collaboration to market the solar program. The goal is to create a partnership that low-income residents can access. To meet this goal, following joint marketing plan is proposed : · Develop a brochure that utilizes logos and names of both the City and GRID Alternatives. · Hold a workshop at a city facility to promote the program. · Advertise the program on the City’s web page. · Utilize other promotional opportunities available to either the City or GRID Alternatives. Environmental Review & Economic & Fiscal Impact The approval to collaborate with GRID Alternatives is an administrative action of the legislative body and is not defined as a project. The proposed action is therefore exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). CEQA does not apply to projects for which “it can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the activity in question may have a significant impact upon the environment” (Section 15061(b)(3) of the CEQA Guidelines). Adoption of the proposed partnership will significantly save residents thousands of dollars through affordable alternative energy. The collaboration effort will create no direct financial costs for the City of Grand Terrace. However, staff time will be required to assist in the promotional campaign and to respond to inquiries by the public. Thank You for Listening And Consideration!
