MINUTES
CALL MEETING TO ORDER:
Brian Phelps, Chairman called the Parks &Recreation Advisory Committee Regular Meeting to
order at 4:20 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Karen Suarez, Vice Chair
ROLL CALL:
Present: Committee Member Rivera; Vice Chair Suarez; Chairman Phelps
Absent: Committee Members Firnkoess and Freund
1. Approve January 10, 2019 Minutes
Committee Member Rivera moved, and Vice Chair Suarez seconded to approve the
January 10, 2019 minutes.

4. New Business
a. Blue Mountain Hike update
Jesse Smith, Executive Assistant to the City Manager provided the Committee with
Minutes Parks Et Recreation Advisory Committee February 14, 2019
an update on the Blue Mountain Hike. Friends of Blue Mountain have turned over the
responsibility of hosting the.annual event to the City, however the organization will
be selling visors for the event. Executive Assistant Smith also described how each.
participant will receive a passport type document to track their hike with information
such as altitude and distance by identifying markers throughout the trail.
b. Community Day Update
Executive Assistant Smith informed the.Committee that the Community Day event
would be held on June 1, 2019 and that a special events committee will be established
to assist with organizing the event.
c. Schedule Parks &Recreation Advisory Committee Workshop
Debra Thomas, City Clerk asked the'Committee what day of the week works best for
them to attend a workshop. The response from the Committee was Fridays and City
Clerk Thomas would be emailing each member several Fridays in March to choose
from to hold.the Committee's workshop. r
5. 2019 Activity Guide
Executive Assistant Smith informed the Committee that the- 2019 Activity Guide is
currently being updated and has an estimated March 1, 2019 roll out date.
6. New Parks
a. Blue Mountain Nature Trail
Sandra Molina, Planning and Development Services Director provided a PowerPoint,
presentation which gave'the Committee an overview of the scope of work for the
Blue Mountain Nature Trail.
7. Recreation and Special Event Activities
a. Recreation Activities
No discussion.
b. Special Event Activities
Executive Assistant Smith announced Pick, Plant and Paint, a community_ event
scheduled for April 13, 2019 to Keep Grand Terrace Beautiful.
8. Committee Member Comments

Vice Chair Suarez asked if members of the public can just show up for the Parks &
Recreation Advisory Committee meetings and secondly, can a member of the public send
in their comments to be read into the record if unable to attend.
City Clerk Thomas- clarified that any member of the public can attend the Committee's
meetings and if a member of the public submitted correspondence, it would be addressed
at the meeting.
Vice Chair Suarez asked if the City would allow participation from foundations outside
of the City that could provide monetary support, expertise and volunteerism to with some
of the City's community events such as pick, paint & plant. Executive Assistant Smith
stated he would look into that and provide feedback at the Committee's next meeting.
Chairman Phelps identified some debris on Barton Road between Honey Hill and the
border with the City of Colton and- asked if Public Works could remove. Executive
Assistant Smith stated he would.share with Public Works Department his concerns and
they will address the issue.
