Newsom was the speaker
• He is the founder of an organization called Mayor’s for Guaranteed Income and
End to Poverty in California
• He was the youngest mayor elected to a major American city
On July 21, 2022, Council Member Allen attended the Inland Empire Community
Foundation second Policy and Engagement Forum:
• The main speaker, Mark Takano talked about the importance of collaborating
with other government entities for grants; combine smaller grants into larger
grants
• Always ask for the most money possible
• He attended a breakout session on Economic Opportunity and Growth in the
Inland Empire with the following speakers presenting:
o Shawn Varner of Varner & Associates
o Jackie Melendez, Inland Empire Growth & Opportunity
